Apparently manes are supposed to fall to the right side, not the left. Who knew! No seriously- who knew this?
Every time I lesson with Kelly she makes the comment that "we" need to braid Ellie's mane over. Who is this "we?" So for some reason I chose the most humid evening to go stand on a stool over a fidgeting horse and attempt to braid a mane that is far bushier than I ever realized.
The result? Biggest braids. Ever.
I prefer to let it fall to which ever side it goes to naturally, but yes it seems each world has its own rules...my eventing friends all shake their heads at me and my wild manes:)ReplyDelete
I knew :PReplyDelete
I knew... :) my old trainer made me braid and braid and braid some more to get a mane that would fall to the right. Luckily Houston's is mostly manageable if I braid every so often. The tighter the braid the faster it trains I think :) you can also wet her main and then braid to make the process a little easier!ReplyDelete
One of the perks of not doing the hunters anymore = giving no shits what side the mane falls on! ;)ReplyDelete
I knew, but then I used to have to teach braiding at horse camps....ReplyDelete
This is a good reminder to go try to tame O's mane.
I'm picky about manes. For a particularly thick mane like Ellie's, I like to make lots of tiny tiny braids. It's not essential to braid all the way down the hair. Just apply hair gel (seriously) and pull down as you braid the first 1-2 inches. Leave it in for 2-3 days, brush out, and repeat as necessary.ReplyDelete
I hate braiding over. I feel like it never works honestly! Maybe I'm just lazy :)ReplyDelete
I had been told once that hunters manes go on the left, dressage on the right. I don't remember where I picked this factoid up, or if the second half is true, though.ReplyDelete
Good luck! I honestly tried for six years to train my horse's mane to the right side with no luck. It would look nice for a week or so and then flip back. So frustrating to a person who prides herself on good horse grooming! Hope Ellie's mane behaves :-)ReplyDelete
